Gist: REEKADO BANKS CALLS OUT DJ XCLUSIVE FOR TAKING HIM OFF A SONG

Tags
Gist

On the day Kiss Daniel signed with G-Worldwide Entertainment, he was chased out of a studio in Lagos, and water was poured on him. He was an upcoming artist, who simply wanted to put something down on the mic and get his music heard.

Kicking him out of the studio was one. Throwing water on him was disrespectful.

Welcome to the music industry, where there’s a huge culture of disrespect that never comes to the surface. It is a strong part of the culture, which exists in the career of almost every musician. It is generally well-hidden. It is deeply personal and negative, hence many people would rather not publicly admit it.

But every once in a while, we get to see some of it slip through the carefully curated public bromance and social media shout outs between celebrities. We get to see some of that underground action.

In previous years, we have been surprised witness as Don Jazzy and Olamide slugged it out. Wizkid and Linda Ikeji became friends of the police. Dammy Krane getting attacked by Wizkid. MC Galaxy was allegedly beaten by
Davido and his crew. Burna Boy getting into all sorts of trouble. And the most rampant, people mistreating each other based on their perceived state of irrelevance.

Disrespect in the music industry comes from all angles. Everyone has either been a victim or a perpetrator. But as long as you exist, you either give it, or receive it. Most times, you are more likely to receive it, than give it. Only true assholes get to give it all the time.
The latest person to get it is Reekado Banks. The singer alerted the public of a severe case of disrespect when he called out DJ Xclusive for cutting him off a forthcoming record, without the courtesy of informing him. Reekado Banks had submitted vocals for a song by Xclusive titled ‘ As e dey hot’ . But it turns out Reekado Banks who contributed to that new hit, will not be giving the hit to the public, as e dey hot.
“No disrespect, but you messed up big time,” He tweeted at DJ Xclsuive. “How do you beg for a song, and take me out without telling me?” #MadDisrespectful.
There are lot of valid reasons why artists get cut off from songs. The history of Nigerian music can be recorded by simply talking and curating artists who missed out on the chance to be a part of great records. This happens for a lot of reasons, and many of them are valid.

But Reekado’s disrespect comes from the fact that he wasn’t informed personally. Instead, he found the news on social media, and so had to call him out on social media. Everyone has a story now. Thanks Reekado Banks. Thanks for dropping it ‘As e dey hot’.
But Reekado Banks and DJ Xclusive is the A-list of disrespectful behaviour. According to a local Nigerian phrase: It is still learning work. They will simply call themselves, work it out and will be fine.

The most painful of those are the ones meted out to upcoming artists. The life of an upcoming artists is very hard. They are regarded by the industry as the lowest on the food chain, and so they offer no value except to keep conversations going.
They are disrespected on all fronts. At studios, they are kicked out and sent on demeaning errands to prove their ‘humility’.

At concerts, they beg and pay promoters for a chance to open the show to empty halls. Sometimes, the halls will be so empty, that it will feel like a glorified sound check. That hurts them mentally and emotionally. Sometimes, they are bullied off their songs by producers, in collusion with top artists, who have more money to spend.

The worst is when their performances are cut off midway, to save time for more established artists.
And when they finally get a song, to get on platforms and spread the music is a huge problem. They go through another round of disrespect.
That’s why they get heady and vindictive the moment success shows up at their doorstep.
Every artist, off camera will tell you “I don suffer for this industry.” That suffer is usually disrespect.
Reekado Banks and DJ Xclusive are friends who are having an off-day. Tomorrow, they will be back to their regular scheduled programming of Instagram hugs and Twitter happiness. Heck, they might even be pictured sharing a cold one on Snapchat. They will be fine.

But true disrespect will never come to the news. Upcoming artists have no leg to stand on, hence they wait for their chance to blow…and disrespect others too.

Happy industry. Don’t forget to listen to ‘As e dey hot’.

Politics: Ekiti Obas’ chairmanship tussle as Alawe accuses Ologotun of destroying history

Tags
Politics
The Alawe of Ilawe-Ekiti, Oba Adebanji Alabi has fired back at the Ologotun of Ogotun-Ekiti, Oba Samuel Oyebade, over the battle for the chairmanship of Ekiti Southwest Local Government Traditional Council in Ekiti State.

Oba Alabi who accused Oba Oyebade of “showing a shallow sense of history” disputed the claim of the latter that he (the Ologotun) is the only “Pelupelu Oba” in Ekiti Southwest Local Government Area.

Alawe insisted that he and Arajaka of Igbara Odo-Ekiti, Oba Edward Jayeola are also Pelupelu Obas and are also favoured by history to occupy the chairmanship of Ekiti Southwest Local Government Traditional Council which has been held by the Ologotun for 20 years.

Oba Alabi was reacting to the claim of Oba Oyebade, that neither the Alawe nor the Arajaka were among the 16 foremost kings known as “Pelupelu Obas.”

Oba Alabi said: “Ologotun showed a shallow sense of history by claiming to be the onloy Pelupelu Oba in Ekiti Southwest. This is because Alawe and Arajaka were Pelupelu during the colonial days and the number 16 was neveer sacrosanct; it varied.

“At the onset in 1900, it was 16 and subsequently, some Obas left and these include Deji of Akure and Owalobo of Obbo who is now in Kwara State. Other Obas joined variously within that period like the Attah of Ayede (1920), Elemure of Emure (1929), Alawe, Arajaka, Olojudo Ido-Ile and Olosi (all in 1947).

“This has been recognized and acknowledged by the past governments in Western region, Western State, old Ondo State and now in Ekiti State.

Twenty Obas attained that status until the Pelupelu Council was dissolved in 1958 before independence.

“Alawe., Arajaka, Ologotun, Elemure, Ogoga (of Ikere), Arinjale (of Ise) were rotating the chairmanship in the old Ekiti South Local Government. In fact, in 1965, Alawe as Chairman under Ekiti South Local Government signed the declaration with which Elemure was appointed Oba then.

“Even when Ekiti Southwest Local Government was created in 1976, the Ondo State Law No 11 of 1979 that was the instrument of creation did not make provision for sole chairmanship but rotation among the three Obas and we have been benefiting from the rights and privileges attached to the position in terms of remuneration and other perks of office.

“Therefore, it is a sign of shallow knowledge of history on the part of Ologotun to claim that he is the only Pelupelu Oba in Ekiti Southwest. This is very wrong and should be corrected; ordinarily I wouldn’t have joined issues with him in the Press but I owe him a history on behalf of my community.

“Ologotun will be deluding himself to think that Ilawe will be the headquarters of the local government and its monarch will be denied the right to chair the traditional council.”

Traditional chiefs of Ilawe and Igbara Odo on Wednesday staged a public protest at the local government secretariat calling on Ogotun to step down from the chairmanship Ekiti Southwest traditional council, the post he had occupied since 1997.

The state government is investigating the crisis by setting up a special panel chaired by the Deputy Governor, Dr Kolapo Olusola, which is expected to submit a report very soon.

Music: Nash - Good Loving

Fast rising Nigerian act, NASH, but whose real name is Ayoola Victor, does
not seem joking with his music career this time, given the quality of his
latest single, which he released during the weekend.

Mr Aiyo, as he is fondly called in some quarters, is yet back with another
sweet tune entitled "Good Loving", produced by O. B. A On The Beat but
mixed and mastered by Swaps, who has worked with the likes of Korede Bello,
Vector, 9ice, Dj Coublon, Masterkraft and many more.

According to the unsigned afro-pop singer, on his Instagram page
(@NASHOFFICIALLY), he wrote that "Good Loving" is a love song and he hopes
his fans love it as he tries to explain how real love is hard to find in
this era ladies with high taste.
But it appears the artiste has fallen victim of these expensive ladies who
are after only money and not love. A post on his Instagram page suggests he
needs good and sweet love, however, it is yet to be confirmed if the
artiste is serious about it or not.
Know that after the successful release of Hello Baby audio and visuals, he
has since gained little recognition in the Nigerian music industry and has
decided to to continue to rev up his game
